Teachers are typically emotionally and mentally drained at the end of the school year. It is really i portant to have sole time to recharge, but once the “teaching” tank is full, it is go time!

I an teaching summer school right now online, which is fine, but I miss the human interaction, the inappropriate jokes, mentoring, and relationship building of the school year.

I have been starting to think about changes I want to make for this school year. In that vein, I bought an audiobook called, Teaching With A.I. by Jose Antonio Bowen. It is a little heavy for an audiobook, but really interesting. I might get the paperback copy as well so I can annotate it.

The rate at which A.I. is changing the nature of work is truly astounding. Humans working with machine learning are going to accomplish incredible things in the next twenty years. My question is: How Can Educators Catch Up?

The pace of technological change is so fast now, that even students are having trouble keeping up with it. So I think I will spend some time diving deeper into this topic before school starts.

I have a bunch of new tools that our district is piloting to try out including Brisk and Magic Schoolbus. These platforms can do a myriad of things: create a presentation on a topic or series of topics, create a quiz for a YouTube Video without the teacher having to watch it, and even write your emails for you!

We had some trainings on this stuff towards the end of last year, but I didn’t have the bandwidth to really dive into it.

Thanks for visiting The Lifelong Education Blog! Don’t forget to start stocking up on school supplies! Have a blessed day!

      1. You’re welcome ☺️

  2. Using AI to create presentations and quizzes is a great idea. Maybe chapter reviews. Excellent!

    1. It is wild how fast this new technology is transforming things, it is faster than when the internet became mainstream.

      1. That’s true and kind of scary. I’m hoping that countries will unite and establish some kind of guidelines and parameters for the proper use.

      2. I hope so too, although it foesn’t seem like that is likely.

      3. Yeah. You’re probably right.

  3. Great posts as always. I appreciate the thoughtful points that you raised in this article regarding teachers and how to cope in the world of education today. From a student’s point of view, I have witnessed strong emotions teachers often go through. Professors often feel intense pressure to perform their jobs which can cause mental health problems. Years ago, I had an elementary school teacher that often had problems with anger management. He would often be caring to students until the day he lost his nerves and threw a chair across the room in temper. It’s definitely an emotionally draining job, so I’m glad to see you have found a way to stay positive.

A fantastic film about teachers that’s worth watching is “The Holdovers”. Alexander Payne’s Oscar-winning drama tells the story of a teacher that’s tasked with the job of chaperoning students during the seasons of Winter. Beautiful film showcasing positive roles teachers play shaping lives of students. Here’s why it’s worth a watch:

  4. Hey Mr. B – have fun getting ready for the new school year. Hah, it’s been a long, long time since I was in school, but I always looked forward to the new school year. I was one of those people who loved school. 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

    1. The older I get, the more I seem to lool forward to it. Working with young people is really a special thing. I joke around with the kids that I have been in high school for 26 years, they always think thats funny.
