I could do with a lot less division of people in my country. As Americans, we are very divided on many different lines, most notably politically in recent years since the advent of social media and cell phone technology.

The America of My Youth

I remember when I was younger listening to Ronald Reagan speak about the clearly defined “Us” the United States and its democratic allies and clearly defined “Them” The Soviet Union and it’s allies. I think this helped Americans keep things in perspective and realize that we are all interdependent on one another regardless of: race, gender, political party, etc. At the end of the day, no one wanted the Soviet Union to win the Cold War as that would mean an end to our very way of life.
Modern Day Divisions Among the People
Nowadays it seems like we are a very divided people, which is not good. The division between what political parties want has widened and moderates no longer rule the day as they once did. These divisions within our society along with an apparent decline in critical thinking skills, are leading us down a road to ruin, similar to what happened with Ancient Rome between Caesar and Pompei.

What Will History Say Of Us?
Maybe something will come along that will really unify the American people, but sad to say we are not united in the way that we used to be. For now though, we are making ourselves an easy target for our adversaries and our leaders seem powerless to stop it. Hopefully I am wrong, but I think history is on my side!
