My journey of lifelong learning will take me to the University of Santa Cruz for my daughter’s move in day as a Banana Slug (school mascot). She has worked her tail off taking advanced placement classes since Middle School and now she will be enjoying the rewards.
I live about a six hour drive from the University of Santa Cruz so it is a considerable journey to get there, but seeing my little girl happy and on her way to a very successful career is worth more than money. She will be the first of my direct relatives to attend a UC caliber school. UC schools are comparable to Ivy League Schools in the East. I wish it was a little closer, but at least its not the other side of the country.

I went to college in Salinas, California for two years which is not far from Santa Cruz. As a matter of fact, my first serious girlfriend took me to “The Boardwalk”, an amusement park right on the beach on one of our first dates.

The remarkable thing about UC Santa Cruz is the geography. On one side is the Pacific Ocean with some of the most iconic scenic coastlines in California and to the East, the Giant Redwood Forest. It is an amazing place for sure. It is near Monterey, Carmel, San Jose, and San Francisco, which leaves lots of options for day trips or evening entertainment.
