Daily writing prompt
What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?

I definitely never want to find myself in a prison of any type. Prisons seem like places of absolute misery. The isolation from friends and family, life with the other inmates, and being treated like an animal are all characteristics of the prison life from what I ascertain.

I heard on the NPR the other day a woman talking about how prisons don’t actually work and are basically torture chambers. I don’t think this is far off the mark for most prisons.

Incarceration in the U.S.

In the U.S. we have the highest incarceration rate in the world. We have an estimated 1,230,100 people locked in prisons right now. The current population of the U.S. 336,306,451 people as of 8:36 AM according to census.gov. So roughly 1 out of every 33 U.S. residents are in prison, which is a staggering statistic.

Incarceration in a Foreign Prison

Anyhow, I sure as heck would not want to find myself in any prison. I think the ultimate nightmare would be to find oneself in a foreign countries prison that did not have due process of any kind. You could be locked away, have no idea why, and no trial or appeal.

  1. You and me too. Visit I could but I don’t want to be a guest of the state

    1. Heck no! Thanks for the comment!

  2. I will go to prison to protest a law that I am certain is unjust so I willfully break it as a matter of civil disobedience.

    1. It wpuld have to be a very bad law, but I agree! Sometimes that is the only way to bring attention to it!

      1. I’d like to believe I would have helped US slaves escape to Canada. I also convinced myself for a while that marijuana prohibition was unjust and that I had a moral duty to disobey it. The latter case has moved in my favor since I used it 30 years ago.

      2. Sometimes that tactic can work, but it has to be part of a larger movement, otherwise you are just taking yourself out of the fight. To defeat devious enemies, one must become somewhat devious as well. Ghandi and MLK’s civil disobedience worked exceptionally well because of the volume of people committing it simultaneously. What were authorities to do when the jail was full?

  3. This post reminded me of how easy it is to be wrongly imprisoned. I would also say prison is one of the places I’d never want to find myself in! I believe the trauma that comes with being imprisoned is being a prisoner for way longer than your served sentence. Must be awful!

    1. It is a literal hell on Earth for most. I imagine it is even worse for those wrongfully imprisoned. Thanks for the comment!

  5. Steel bars close around,
    A moment of stillness found,
    Freedom in the mind.

    1. I think Malcolm X would agree!

  6. I was a police officer before I spent 17 years in prison. Never imagined back then that prison was in my future. And yes, it is hell.

    1. It must of been pretty horrific, especially if you were a cop beforehand. Your lucky to of made it out.

  7. I’m currently incarcerated now I’ve been in a county jail for 13 months still with no outdate fighting a case yes its miserable knowing nothing about the outside and only getting worse every day I just want out to have another chance and opportunity in this world if anyone wants to contact me my info to write is on my page just interaction with people on the outside would be nice and helpful through these times thanks to people for having care for people incarcerated it does mean a lot

    1. Thanks for the comment. I can’t imagine what that is like. I wish you well brother!

      1. Thank u Mr B I was the coop2341 but I had to make another account

      2. Stay strong brother!

      3. Yes sir u to all we have is ourselves our loved ones and our positive support

  8. As a incarcerated inmate it sucks yes I or we may have made the mistakes but if we’re really willing and ready to change the system doesn’t care or see that and wants to hold us down instead of offering us the help we could use in the end all we have is ourselves and the people we do or don’t know that actually care about us and support us thank you to everyone who supports inmates to change and help to encourage us and inspire us we with help have to make the changes to help change ourselves and the world and not let the system prevail in trying to hold us down!

    1. So often the punishment does not fit the crime….

      1. True statement brother I’ve spent many years incarcerated all for faults of my own but this time I’m locked up all for trying to help someone out and the person brought a lot of drugs in my car then I got with a crazy girl who has locked many of her exes up but I didn’t listen I gave her a chance and she put bogus charges on me the officers said in my one case I didn’t throw the drugs out and they knew they didn’t belong to me and the case with my ex they know they’re all lies but because of my past they’ve offered me more time than ever before they’ve been offering me 20 years but I’m still fighting

      2. That seems very unfair….did she get incarcerated as well?

      3. She plead out to a 15 year sentence which people tell me that’s a admission of guilt on her part and I feel the same way but I’m still fighting the case I had a preliminary hearing almost 2 years ago where the officers said there’s no way I threw the drugs out of the car but now they say they’ve lost the preliminary hearing my lawyer showed me videos 2 weeks ago they said they pulled me over for a traffic lane violation but there’s no video showing a traffic lane violation and there’s no video showing them finding the drugs only videos of after they found the drugs when they put them all on the back of the car if u or anyone reading this know any case law I can use please let me know the legal stuff we have access to in here is limited and hard for me to really do any research

      4. If they don’t have the evidence, how can they hold you?

      5. Idk I don’t have access to a full law library to research anything if anyone can help with any its greatly appreciated I go back to court September 12th

      6. What evidence do they have, just the testimony of your ex?

      7. No only the testimony of the police officer saying that he saw everything happen she never told them anything she never claimed the drugs she just took a 15 year plea and never claimed anything

      8. Hard to argue with the cops, but she certainly does not seem very credible. How much of the case rests on her testimony?

      9. She never gave a testimony to the best of my knowledge but she took a 15 year plea agreement I go back to court October 3rd

      10. How did it go?

      11. They put me off until October 24th they didn’t even take me to court on the 3rd so hopefully I’ll find out something next Thursday

  9. Prison or county jail anywhere incarcerated is really not a place for anyone to find their self in I’ve currently been incarcerated in a county jail for 13 months still fighting my case

    1. Once your trapped in the system it is a nightmare trying to get out.

      1. I’ve been on the same train of thought with u for years but these past 13 months I’ve come to realize we have to break ourselves free the system don’t care but we can become untrapped if we go to God give up all the old negative things and push forward and prove to the system we’re not just another one of their statistics

      2. Facts…

      3. Thanks we have to break the cycle however we can for ourselves our kids our families and loved ones!

      4. Absolutely!
