I vividly remember leaving home to live in Salinas, California to go to college there. I didn’t have a driver’s license, a car, any life experience beyond some summer jobs.

All I knew was a catcher was needed and the school I was out already had one, well actually like 5.

After moving my meager possessions into our shared apartment and my best friends dad left, it really set in that I was doing adult stuff.

It was a scary and exhilerating time. I went on to be all conference that year, got a great job at Red Lobster as a waiter, fell in love for the first time, and got my truck.

It was a momentous time, a time of great personal growth, a time of testing personal limits, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

  1. Great story. I’m sure it was hard back then, but now you’re probably thinking of that experience as foundational to where you are now.

    1. Thanks brother, yeah it was a tough transition, but sometimes you have to “burn the boats” to take the island.
