Daily writing prompt
How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

An interesting question….I think my life can be separated into two epochs, before children and after children. My perspective changed quite a bit when my daughter was born.

For the first time in my life, it wasn’t just about me or me and my girlfriend/wife. We had this little person to take care of. A little person that was completely dependent upon us. It sounds cheesy, but it is so true. Having a child absolutely changes everything in a person’s life.

Going out on the weekends to bars and clubs and whatnot took a backseat to intense family time. Feeding the baby, changing the baby, and washing the baby while praying for the darn baby to sleep!

Anyone that has had kids can tell you it is a grind in those early years. It is a 24-hour round the clock, be on alert all the time type of job. Then they learn to crawl and walk….nothing in your house is safe anymore! Get accustomed to baby pulling all the pans out of your kitchen and banging on them because it is super fun! It is even more fun if you do it two or three times a day!

Then you have these moments that take your breath away where you are with your partner and the baby…all is right with the world. That thing you spent your young adulthood looking for, but never seemed to find, yeah you found it. If you are smart you will keep it!

  1. That was beautiful. My favorites have been becoming a parent and most recently..being a grandparent to one very smart, very mischievous 2 year old. He reminds me so much of my son and me in some respects. I love it.

The weather here in St. Louis, Missouri is dry and cold right now. I honestly wouldn’t mind a little rain, but I’ll take anything over ice and snow. Hope your night is going well, Happy Sunday! 😊

    1. Thanks for the kind words. I miss those days, but am looking forward to being able to say, “It has been great, I am going home now.” 🙂

  2. I remember when my now teen was 5 or 6 or 7 and me just wishing he’d grow up fast. Now that he’s a teen, how I wish I could have savored those early years more. But then I could also simply be forgetful about it all. But I did love those years just as I love watching my youngest grow into a handsome young man.

    1. It is an amazing time, for sure, thanks for sharing!

  3. Ah, children. The banes of our existence and the greatest gift we’ve ever received all in one 😄
