I would have to say exercising with friends is the best, preferably while playing some sort of sport. I love playing baseball, softball, and golf with my buddies. The sports are fun, but the social aspect always makes it worthwhile.

Inevitably, topics about family, finance, and politics come up and deeper bonds are formed. Even when I go skiing, I like to go with my daughter because it makes the whole experience better. Exercising via sport also provides a lot of intrinsic motivation in the form of competition that helps you push yourself further than you think you can.

If you have not read this book or watched the film, I highly recommend both. It is about a young man who decides to go walkabout in the U.S. by living a minimalist lifestyle. A sad, yet enlightening look at what it is we may truly be seeking.
