It is hard to believe I have been a professional educator for twenty-years now. It has gone by so very fast, most of the time 🙂 Today is our last day of school, it is a teacher workday. I turned in all my paperwork and am just beginning to contemplate summer school in July.

As I continue growing as a professional educator I am filled with an immense sense of gratitude to be a part of this profession. I would not say that my ultimate success was always guaranteed in this field, but I think because I had to work a little harder than most, it has made me into a profound lifelong learner. I use to be super excited for the last day of work, which I do feel still, but I also am starting to miss the “action” of teaching. The all hands on deck, 100% effort that is required each day to be an effective educator. The ability to respond to complex situations with empathy and logic. The relationships that are formed between students and teachers, school staff, and our respective subjects.

I look forward to some time off, a vacation to Utah, and time with family, but I am already mentally ready to take on 2025. I just learned that summer school enrollment is pretty low so I may end up having July off as well. I may end up writing a book with that much time on my hands! Congratulations to all the 2024 guardians, parents, teachers, and graduates, we made it through another year!

  1. what will your book be about?

    1. Not sure yet, maybe the Economics of Teaching…how economics can be used to analyze student behavior and get optimal results…Maybe a book about my pets as superheroes….A book about war stories from the education world…not really sure yet 🙂

      1. The Economics of Teaching sounds very interesting to me.

      2. I teach a lot of Microeconomics which deals with decision making and behavior, which if your a teacher is really important to understand. One can use these principals to maximize learning as well as creating a positive class atmosphere. Something like that anyway….Maybe something on the political side of things. We will see….

      3. There’s something about this that reminds me of my Intro to Political Science class in college. It was like this unknown topic that opened my eyes to great life lessons. I imagine your microeconomics would be like that.

      4. I work with a lot of at-risk inner coty youth so it is paramount to keep things interesting and relevant

  2. Enjoy your well-deserved vacation! I remember those summers fly by faster than you think. 😁

    1. I know, before you know it it will August again. We have already been told that the master schedule will be “tight” this year, which means 36+ kids a class. It feels like fast food rather than fine dining sometimes 🙂

  3. Congrats on finishing the year well and being ready to take on another year! Quite an accomplishment!

    1. Thanks! I am already getting hungry to get back after it! I will probably be one of those teachers that always talks about how close they are to retirement, but will teach until I can’t walk anymore 🙂
