The biggest waste of time for me is sleeping. Sleep is so annoying, I have so much to do each day. It really interferes with my enjoyment of life. I mean, I lose like eight hours a day!

I could use that time to pet the cats, grade papers, lesson plan, blog, stare blankly off into space, put off doing laundry, make exotic coffee drinks, annoy my teenage children, annoy my girlfriend, do yardwork, daydream about what I would do if I were President, realize this would be a terrible idea, watch talking cat memes, watch singing cat memes, look at real estate across America that I will never buy, try to explain the importance of hygiene to my teenage children, clean part of the garage then get distracted, tackle my dog, communicate with my bearded dragon through a series of nuanced body language cues, clean the kitchen, fish Castaic Lake (I hardly ever catch anything), and most importantly, play video games.

As you can tell, I am a very busy guy, sleep as “important” as it is, is a complete waste of time for me. How am I supposed to squeeze all this stuff into 16 hours? It is a full-time job in itself.

  1. This was great! That was the best run-on sentence I’ve ever read… too funny, my friend!

    1. It’s summer, I am taking a break from grammar😂. Glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Great posts as always. I can relate to your sentiments regarding sleep lol. I have never been fond of sleeping since an early age. I always enjoyed staying up late to watch movies. I do believe that sleep is necessary to function properly, but one does not need so much of it. I sleep at 12 am and am up at around 5 am. That’s not a whole lot of sleep. But it doesn’t affect my ability to function during the day. I like getting up early to complete tasks because that’s the time when I’m most productive. In this sense, I can absolutely understand your views regarding sleep.

A fantastic film capturing the lives of people that don’t like to sleep is “Fight Club”. Released back in 1999, it is a cult classic telling a story of an insomniac narrator that forms a fight club to confront his mental health problems. One of the best movies ever made. Here’s why it’s worth watching:

    1. Fight Club is in my Top 5 of all time for sure. I have since read a lot of Chuck Palhniuk’s books and have found them equal parts strange and compelling.

    2. Thanks man, yeah sleep is lame, but we would go crazy without it. Interestingly, we process most of what we learned when we sleep as well!

Fight Club is definitely one of my favs! We used to have boxing match fight club in college, it was an authentic experience that is for sure!

  3. I’ve only fished Castaic lake a few times. Always skunked. Makes me wonder if there are any fish and n there

    1. No kidding? I take it you live in the L.A. area?

      1. Yep. I fished there about 20 years ago. Since we never caught anything, we stopped going. Hopefully it’s better now. I grew up fishing mammoth since I was 7, so maybe that spoiled me.

      2. Your fishing report is still pretty accurate😂. I have had to really up my bass fishing game to have any success, but I have had some killer days out there. When its good, its really good.
I had one day where I caught ten bass, all over 3 pounds, up to 8 pounds and five pound striper in like two hours. Then some yahoo brought his boat over and spooked the fish so he could “make bait”. I was super pissed!

      3. That’s a pretty awesome day! Maybe I’ll give it another try someday. I shake my head sometimes at other people. I’d be pissed, too!

      4. If you rent a boat and use live night crawlers with two or three split shots you will probably get something.

  4. What a great read!

    1. Thanks for reading! Sleep 1 out of 5 stars 🙂

  5. 💚🧡💖💯

    Blessed and Happy afternoon 🌞🌈🇪🇸
