The last thing I learned was not to slide when you don’t have baseball pants on. It may be fun to go out and dive for a ball on your Sunday softball team, but you should remember that the ground is not all that forgiving to skin!

I made my return to men’s softball two Sunday’s ago and thought it would be a good idea to slide on my right leg to catch a ground ball I probably had no chance to catch. When I stood up, I found a big road rash on my leg.

At first, I thought it looked cool, so I was feeling pretty good about how hard I was playing. I felt like I was really “bringing it” that particular day. When I got home, it started to hurt, making walking painful, then later sleeping, or any inadvertent contact with basically anything….painful.
Here I am two weeks later and it itches/burns pretty much all the time. Every once in a while a nice piece of scab comes off and it starts bleeding again.
You think I would of learned my lesson about sliding in shorts as the last time I tried it I broke my ankle, but I guess some old dogs just don’t learn new tricks! This ended up being one of those painful life-long learning lessons!
