I do like to gamble. Usually it is more of a charity event where wealth is transferred from my bank account to the casino, but not this time!
After an exhileratung stay in Brianhead, Utah, where I had the best two day stretch of flyfishing in my forty-six years, we stopped at Mesquite, Nevada on the way home because it is roughly half way home.

I sat down at the $10 blackjack table after playing slots for an hour or so. I was anticipating playing a half hour or so, but out of ny first ten hands, the worst outcome I had was a push.

I was also playing the “Pair Square” side bet for a dollar a game where if you get a “Pair”, it pays 10 to 1, a suited pair 25 to 1.
The good luck rolled on, I pulled a few off-suited pairs. The dealer had bet her tip on the “Pair Square” bet and won herself $10 once, which was cool. The table came alive as evwryone seemed to be winning and having a great time.
Eventually I decided to parlay some house money into some 3-Card Poker. I played fove hands lost 3 and decided to try Craps. There was a lively group playing, but as it turned put the dice were not on the players side. Played a few rolls lost and back to blackjack. I got on another hot streak and ran up my winnings considerably.
Realizing I could walk away an actual winner, I made my way to the cashier. I was taught it is “bad luck” to count your chips before you are done. To my surprise, I was up close to $300, which was pretty remarkable considering how much I had tipped the dealers and how much I lost on the side bets. A nice way to cap off a fantastic vacation.
