Are you a good judge of character?
We all lie to some degree or another, most the time in harmless ways that allow purselves or others to save face. Occasionally, we may tell a whopper of a lie, but usually will own up to it after the fact if there are negative consequences. Sime individuals lie a lot though, like all the time and it is a valueable skill to tell when someone is lying.
#1 – Eye Movement to the Left
Only the most devious of liars do not move their eyes left when they lie. Why you may ask? The left side of the brain is the creative side of the brain, therefore, eye movement this direction indicates creative thinking, oftentimes, especially if it is a lie that is being made up on the spot (this method works great in teenagers).

#2 – Inconsistencies in a Story
It is very hard to repeatedly tell the same story with a lot of lies in it. Asking for someone to restate the story, gives the listener a chance to spot subtle inconsistencies. It may be the characters in the story, the setting or the overall plot. When pressed on these smaller details, you may observe the liar sweating, eyes dilating, looking away from you, or they may get angry to try and deflect your interrogation.

#3 – Lack if Supporting Evidence and/or Corroboration
I am sure you have someone. Your life who always has a fantastical story of their life events. The trouble is no one can ever verify much of what they say. Fisherman are notorious for this, exaggerating wildly about their catch, but it is very common, especially amoung younger folk.
My son told a whopper of a lie when he was five. He had us convinced that another kid beat him up, spit on him, and cursed at him. We were very upset and I was ready to storm the preschool the next day, but my wife caught some inconsistencies and had our son re-tell the story. Eventually, he admitted he made it up, but he certainly had me going.
