Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?

I had a really good Economics teacher in high school who explained the Japanese business model, Kai’zen to us and it really stuck with me.

The philoophy of Kai’zen is to make small progress each day and occasional large jumps forward (i.e. innovations). This is a guiding philosophy of Japanese manufacturing which is second to none in regards to quality.

I look at my life the same way. I try to make small improvements each day in certain areas either through study, mindful practice, or comcerted effort and over time, my quality of life improves quite dramatically.

In regards to whether my life is as I thought it would be a year ago, yes and no. Yes in that things have improved in some areas, but I there is always things that I would like to be better at and it can be frustrating to not make progress on those things.

I will keep up my Kai’zen attitude though and this will hopefully guide me to lefelong learning.

Thanks for reading Bunchiesblog! My stats have gone over a cliff the last couple of weeks and I am not sure why. If you notice anything weird with my site, please let me know in the comments!

  2. You are so lucky to have hear about kaizen so early in life! Nice clip to illustrate the difference between the cultures. My husband worked for Toyota for many years so I learned some great stuff about cultures.

    1. I agree, it is such a practical philosophy. Was it kind of like “Gung Ho”?

      1. It has been way too long since I saw that film so I can’t remember! But there is so much honor and courtesy among (many of) the Japanese.

      2. They are an amazing people, that is for sure!

  3. Kaizen is a great practice and way of thought. I like the drip, drip, drip method of gradual constant improvement. It ain’t sexy, but sure and steady, shows results

    1. Yep, 1% a day improvement = 100% in 100 days!
