Daily writing prompt
If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

I would probably do quite a bit with that time, but if I had a toddler, I don’t know if I could handle it. I could really improve my blog and have time to do more entrepreneurial activities with extra free time. It would definitely be nice to spend more time with my kids and fur kids. Maybe I could work a second job or get a doctorate? An extra stream of income would be very nice these days with everything being increasingly expensive.

I would have more time to devote to philanthropic activities, go to school events, and make delicious meals! I am assuming there would be a corresponding lack of “tiredness” of course. What if we didn’t sleep, but we had to watch at least one Disney movie every night? How long till we would run out of Disney movies? Would we need a lot more calories? What if our kids didn’t sleep, yikes! I loved when my kids were little, but thank god they went to sleep at the end of the day (most of the time)!

It would definitely be an interesting alternate universe if we did not have to sleep. I seem to almost always be running short on time, so extra time would be very welcome to do all the tasks set before me, although parenting little ones would be a real challenge.

  1. First off, I love sleep! I love cocooning into a soft mass of cozy covers, especially in the winter. And I love dreaming – can’t do that without sleep.

That said, I think I’d do three things:
    1) Cook more! As in, making basic ingredients like chicken stock, enchilada sauce, jams, seasoning mixes, refried beans. And while these items are cooking away, I’d…

    2) Read more! I devour books. So far this year, 2023, I’ve read 77 books (really). My death fear (fear of missing something due to my untimely death) is that there will be fantastic books that I haven’t gotten around to. If I believed in heaven, it’d be a giant library filled with books I haven’t read.

    3) Maybe this one’s silly, but I love jigsaw puzzles! The fever was started by COVID and continues. I got my hands on a 1,000 piece puzzle of a map of California wine country, followed by a map of Portuguese wine country, and I haven’t stopped. Working on a puzzle requires concentration, but at the same time you can empty your mind of everything BUT the puzzle. Singular focus is good for the mind.

    4) I’m adding a fourth – learning a new language, Portuguese! And it’s a tough language to learn, too. If you pronounce the word for “bread” incorrectly, it’s the word for “dick.” Gonna be interesting at the bakery…

    1. Lol, yeah that bakery situation could get dicey😄
