I have nothing but respect for true selflessness. I see people practicing this constantly and it quietly renews my faith in humanity.
I see the way parents care for children, siblings for one another, strangers helping others, compassion for the less fortunate, and the great lengths individuals go to help others, even at their own detriment.

The loyalty of soldiers, friends, colleagues, students, associates….people who take stands against impossible odds refresh the yearnings of my religious upbringing to serve others as the highest reward and measure of success. It reminds me of all that once was good…and could be good again. It reminds me that human race is not completely lost and hopeless, that we have amazing capacity, unrealized….unrecognized many times, but it is something we all have. The greatest of our leaders find ways to tap into this…
Those who sacrifice themselves for others, those who help the helpless, the hopeless, the downtrodden, the forgotten…are all that is right with the world.

Leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr, Mohatma Ghandi, Greta Thornberg, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Simon Bolivar, George Washington, and all the others who never wanted or needed recognition because the reward was in the doing of their good deeds, come to mind.

In short, we are here because we stand upon the sacrifices of others. It can be an overwhelming legacy when one truly ponders it, however, it can also be an empowering one.
